want to adopt?
People are generally interested in adoption as a way of creating a family or may wish to assist a child needing a family placement.
There are only a small number of children needing adoptive families in NSW. In 2009/10, there were 13 local adoptions and 78 intercountry adoptions across all of NSW.
The process of applying to adopt moves in stages. New information at each stage helps you consider whether adoption is right for your family.
An overview of the stages and process for applying to adopt through the local and intercountry programs is provided in Thinking about adoption (PDF).
