bushfire recovery
Bushfires can have a crippling impact on a community. The bushfires of 2002-03 burnt more than 1.5 million hectares in NSW and affected many communities throughout the state.
Not only do bushfires affect people whose homes are damaged or destroyed, they also impact greatly on people who lose property, stock and equipment related to their livelihoods.
If you have been affected by bushfires, you need to know that support is available, not just in those first critical hours of the fires occurring, but also during the long recovery process afterwards.
DoCS works to help during and immediately after bushfires in NSW through Evacuation Centres and Disaster Recovery Centres. In addition, financial assistance may also be available through the NSW Disaster Relief Scheme.
If you have been affected by bushfires, call DoCS State Disaster Recovery Centre on 1800 018 444 for further information on types of assistance available to you.
