disaster recovery
DoCS disaster recovery services provide support to help people and communities recover from disasters such as floods, droughts, storms and bushfires, and other major incidents.
We help to meet the immediate welfare and support needs of people affected by disasters. This includes coordinating provision of food, accommodation, clothing, advice, guidance and financial and personal support.
Immediate assistance is available to disaster victims from locally established Evacuation Centres. Staff in these centres help meet the immediate needs of evacuees.
Medium and long term support is available from locally established Disaster Recovery Centres, which are set up in the event of a larger scale disaster.
In some cases, we will arrange home visits to disaster victims to assess their needs.
People affected by disaster who require assistance should register with DoCS at their local Evacuation or Disaster Recovery Centre or call the State Disaster Recovery Centre on 1800 018 444.
Financial assistance may also be available for people affected by disasters via the NSW Disaster Relief Scheme. People financially disadvantaged by drought may be eligible for special assistance — find out if you're eligible.
Disaster recovery information is also available in seven community languages: Arabic, Chinese, Croatian, Spanish, Somali, Turkish, and Vietnamese, as well as English.
