translating and interpreting service
Access to interpreting services is critical for ensuring appropriate and effective service delivery to clients of DoCS funded services who speak little or no English.
Following a Commonwealth Government decision to withdraw fee-free access to interpreting services from organisations funded by NSW Government agencies, DoCS has arranged for the Translating and Interpreting Service (TIS) to provide interpreting services to NGOs funded through grants from DoCS, at no expense to those organisations.
The Department will be taking responsibility for the cost of these interpreting services directly with TIS. This scheme will only apply where alternative arrangements for fee-free interpreting are not already in place.
Organisations not already registered with TIS, will need to complete the attached Exemption from charges for interpreting services application form. Copies of this form can also be downloaded from the TIS website.
For more information, see the fact sheet.
Applicants need to send the form to:
DoCS Multicultural Services Unit
Locked Bag 28, Ashfield, NSW, 1800
or fax: 02 9716 2906
Should you have any questions about the scheme, please do not hesitate to contact Mark Drury, Multicultural Services Unit on 02 9716 2339 or at: Mark.drury@community.nsw.gov.au
