who is eligible?

Pregnant women and families with young children aged 0-8 years are eligible to participate in the Brighter Futures program. 

Families with children under three years and families referred by an Aboriginal Maternal and Infant Health Service are given priority access to Brighter Futures.

To be able to access the Brighter Futures program, parents must also be experiencing a vulnerability that if not addressed is likely to worsen and to impact on their capacity to parent adequately or on the wellbeing of their children.

Brighter Futures vulnerabilities

These include:

  • domestic violence
  • parental drug or alcohol problems
  • parental mental health issues
  • lack of family or social support
  • parents with significant learning difficulties or intellectual disability
  • child behaviour management problems
  • lack of parenting skills or inadequate supervision
