funding for children's services

Responsibility for children's services has been transferred from the Department of Family and Community Services to the Department of Education and Communities as of 3 April 2011.

Under the children’s services program, over 1600 service providers such as local council and non-government organisations are funded to deliver over 1700 projects in NSW, targeting children from birth to 12 years.

Funded services include preschool, occasional care, community based long day care and vacation care, toy libraries, sector development agencies and peak bodies.

Preschool service providers received a letter from the Office of Education outlining the arrangements for funding of preschool providers that will apply in New South Wales for 2011/12.

Part of this year's arrangement is the accelerated payment of variations based on the August 2011 preschool data collection.
