Aboriginal Child, Family and Community Care State Secretariat
The Aboriginal Child, Family and Community Care State Secretariat (AbSec) is the peak body providing child protection and out-of-home-care policy advice to government and the non-government sectors on issues affecting Aboriginal children, young people and their families.
AbSec also auspices the Aboriginal statewide foster care support service (ASFCSS), providing free telephone and advocacy services for the carers of Aboriginal children and young people, and local communities wishing to establish Aboriginal foster care support groups.
Association of Children’s Welfare Agencies
The Association of Children’s Welfare Agencies (ACWA) is the NSW non-government peak body representing community organisations who work with vulnerable children, young people and their families. ACWA works with their members, partners and government agencies, initiating and contributing to policy development to bring about systemic reform.
ACWA also provides training opportunities for people working across the community welfare sector through the Centre for Community Welfare Training (CCWT).
The Centre for Community Welfare Training (CCWT) is the learning and development arm of ACWA. CCWT is a registered training organisation providing training opportunities for people working across the community welfare sector in NSW and promoting a learning culture within the human services sector.
Centre for Volunteering
The Centre for Volunteering is the peak body in NSW that promotes and supports volunteering and community participation. The Centre for Volunteering includes Volunteering NSW, their service delivery arm, and the School of Volunteer Management, a registered training organisation.
The centre provides referral, training, resource development, information and education services to help people get involved in their communities, and enhance the capacity and skills of not-for-profit organisations, corporations and government to become involved in the community.
Council of Social Services, New South Wales (NCOSS)
NCOSS provides independent and informed policy development, advice and review and plays a key coordination and leadership role for the non-government, social and community services sector in New South Wales.
NCOSS works with its members, the community welfare sector, the NSW Government and other relevant agencies on current, emerging and ongoing social, systemic and operational issues.
CREATE is the peak body representing the voices of all children and young people in out-of-home care. CREATE connects children and young people to each other and their community. The foundation empowers children and young people in care, and advocates to change the out-of-home-care system through improving policies, practices and services and improving community awareness.
Domestic Violence NSW (DVNSW)
DVNSW is a domestic and family violence peak body whose membership comprises specialist domestic and family violence services within NSW.
DVNSW’s key roles include policy research, development and advice, advocacy, information dissemination to the sector; and sector consultation, coordination and capacity building.
DVNSW operates in partnership with other homelessness peak bodies in the context of the Going Home Staying Home reforms.
FamS – NSW Family Services Inc
NSW Family Services is the peak body supporting non-government organisations in NSW providing services to families experiencing stress.
It is involved in a range of strategies that inform and influence government, funding bodies, and the sector.
Homelessness NSW is a broad-based peak body whose members include services that provide accommodation, support and other services to people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness.
It is also the central contact point for information and resources concerning adult homelessness in NSW. Homelessness NSW advocates on behalf of agencies and homeless people across NSW, with a particular focus on single men, single women, families and children.
Local Community Services Association
The Local Community Services Association (LCSA) is the peak body of Neighbourhood and Community Centres in NSW.
LCSA resources and supports its members to develop as community development organisations and advocates and represents their interests among policy and decision makers.
YFoundation (previously Youth Accommodation Association (YAA))
YFoundation is a peak body that seeks to end homelessness in NSW and Australia-wide. YFoundation seeks to represent the needs of young people at risk of, or experiencing homelessness and those services who support them.
The Foundation is a network of member services working with young people, government organisations, concerned individuals, and other organisations to develop a range of policies to improve service provision to homeless young people.
Youth Action & Policy Association NSW Inc - Youth Action (previously known as YAPA)
Youth Action is the peak organisation representing young people and youth services in NSW. Youth Action strives to achieve social justice for young people, including the appropriate provision of services for young people.
- monitors and responds to government policies and proposals affecting young people
- promotes and advocates on issues affecting young people and youth services
- brings young people and youth workers together to act on issues affecting them
- works to raise a positive profile of young people in the media and in the community
- provides training, forums and conferences to young people and youth workers
- provides information and referral
- produces a range of resources, publications and newsletters.
