Early intervention programs support children’s age-appropriate development before they become involved with the child protection system.
A key aim of the Keep Them Safe reforms is the development of government and non-government prevention and early intervention services.
Community Services provides and funds support services for children, young people and their families.
There are two main early intervention programs:
Brighter Futures
Brighter Futures services are provided to families with children under nine years of age who are experiencing a range of vulnerabilities, including, domestic violence, parental drug and alcohol misuse and/or mental health issues, as well as child behaviour management problems.
Early Intervention & Placement Prevention program
In 2010/11, services funded under the Community Services Grants Program (CSGP) were re-aligned to form part of a new program called the Early Intervention & Placement Prevention Program (EIPP).
The Early Intervention & Placement Prevention program provides appropriately targeted child, youth and family support services to reduce the likelihood of children and young people entering or remaining in the child protection and out-of-home care systems.
