Community Services recruits caseworkers throughout the year and applications can be made at any time, but we are seeking applications now from students in their final semester of study for an appropriate degree.

Final year students who apply before 18 September 2009 could be offered employment commencing by 28 February 2010 in various locations in rural and regional New South Wales.

am I eligible?

You are eligible to apply for a caseworker position if you are are in your final semester of study for a Community Services appropriate qualification and you:

  • are an Australian citizen or permanent Australian resident
  • hold a valid driver’s licence
  • have had some experience in human services and/or welfare, including practicums and placements, as well as any paid and/or voluntary work.

how do I apply?

To apply as a final year student, you should complete an online final year student application by 18 September 2009.

If your application meets our selection criteria, you will be referred to one of our assessment centres planned for September- October 2009.

what is an assessment centre?

Assessment centres allow candidates to participate in a number of activities, including a written exercise, group task, role play, critical reasoning task, and interview, where they can demonstrate their skills in:

  • analysing and problem solving
  • conceptualising
  • interacting
  • supporting and cooperating
  • leading and making decisions
  • organising, adapting and coping.

when will I receive an offer?

If your skills are assessed as suitable, you will be offered permanent employment subject to the successful completion of your degree and all relevant pre-employment screening processes.

Offers will then be valid for immediate commencement up to 28 February 2010.

If you are offered work but there are no positions available in your preferred locations, your name will be placed on an eligibility list.

You will then be contacted as soon as a vacancy arises in your preferred locations and you may be offered temporary work in the interim.
