Service system realignment
The Community Services Grants Program (CSGP) is a longstanding and important government funding program that has delivered a wide range of valued support services to individuals, families and the community over many years.
However, the need to strengthen CSGP has been widely acknowledged throughout the sector, which recognised the program lacked a unifying set of service models and did not meet contemporary accountability requirements.
Collaboration delivers a win!
Non-government peaks, working closely with Community Services, identified solutions to the program’s problems and secured additional government funding to be distributed across the state on a needs and equity basis.
Two funding streams
Services previously funded under CSGP are now being realigned into two streams, based on their current service specification and CSGP sub-program.
The Community Builders stream is for services whose results have to do with community strengthening, while those who provide services directly to children, young people and families will align with the new Early Intervention & Placement Prevention program.
This streaming process means services previously funded through CSGP will be more closely aligned with NSW Government priorities articulated in NSW 2021 and Keep Them Safe.
It will also enable Community Services to more clearly measure and articulate the outcomes the services deliver in local communities.
See CSGP realignment for more information.
An additional $10 million per year funding has been allocated to services under the Community Builders program, while programs aligned with the various models in the Early Intervention & Placement Prevention stream are eligible for new Keep Them Safe funding of more than $11 million per year.
A non-government consultative group continues to work with Community Services on the implementation of the service system realignment project.
