NSW Interagency Guidelines for Child Protection Intervention

The NSW Interagency Guidelines for Child Protection Intervention 2006 edition (the Guidelines) provide practical guidance on interagency cooperation in child protection.

International research recognises that effective interagency practice is a key factor in protecting children and young people at risk of harm.

The Children and Young Persons (Care and Protection) Act 1998 provides a statutory basis for collaborative work in child protection across government, community sector agencies and families in NSW.

The Guidelines are intended to assist professionals and agency practitioners work together across agency boundaries when responding to child protection concerns.

The Guidelines were first produced in 1991. A comprehensive review of the Guidelines has now been completed by the NSW Child Protection Senior Officers Group (CPSOG), resulting in this 2006 edition.

The CPSOG is comprised of representatives from a wide range of NSW government human service and justice agencies. The Secretariat for the CPSOG is located in DoCS.

Hard copies of this edition of the Guidelines have now been produced and distributed to all CPSOG agencies and to DoCS funded organisations.
