disaster welfare
The NSW Government provides Disaster Welfare Services to support people who have been impacted by disasters such as floods, storms, bushfires and other emergencies.
The Ministry for Police and Emergency Services (MPES) is responsible for the state wide coordination of Disaster Welfare Services.
MPES operates the Disaster Welfare Assistance Line 1800 018 444, and is responsible for the administration of disaster relief grants for essential contents and structural repairs.
The Department of Family and Community Services (FACS) is responsible for the coordination and delivery of Disaster Welfare Services in the local community. This includes establishing and managing evacuation centres and ensuring that the immediate needs of disaster affected people are met.
MPES and FACS work together with five non-government partner agencies, Australian Red Cross, St Vincent de Paul, Anglicare, ADRA and the Salvation Army. More information about the Ministry for Police and Emergency Services can be found on their website.
