the Hawkesbury-Nepean Flood Plan

The Hawkesbury-Nepean River is one of the major river systems of NSW, draining a catchment area of 22,000 square kilometres. Severe flooding in the Hawkesbury-Nepean area can occur after exceptionally heavy rainfall.

DoCS is currently working alongside a number of government and non-government areas on the Hawkesbury-Nepean Flood Plan Management Strategy.

The strategy aims to increase awareness in the region about the risk of flooding and ways to be prepared. It provides local communities with information on how to respond in the event of a flood and promote community recovery after floods.

DoCS has also been involved in evacuation and recovery training sessions with emergency services and its community partners under the Disaster Recovery (Human Services) Plan. This training aims to ensure that if flooding does occur, the community is well placed to respond in a timely manner.
