Spotlight on safety

group of kids

Spotlight on safety is a ground breaking study of community knowledge, attitudes and behaviours in relation to child protection and wellbeing.

DoCS commissioned the research to gain a better understanding of what the community thinks about children, the value it places on them, and the skills and knowledge people have to protect and nurture children.

The findings provide insights into a range of issues including the community’s knowledge of what constitutes abuse and neglect, the reasons people do and don’t report suspected cases of abuse and neglect, and their motivations for fostering.

Spotlight on safety is an important addition to the growing body of knowledge and information DoCS is sharing with our partners to increase professional and public understanding of the issues we face and to assist with the planning of programs and services.

Limited hard copies of the report are also available. For more information on the study, call DoCS Media and Communication Branch on 9716 2663.
