funding for children's services
Under it’s Children’s Services Program, DoCS funds over 1600 service providers such as local council and non-government organisations to deliver over 1700 projects in NSW, targeting children from birth to 12 years old.
Services that DoCS funds include preschool, occasional care, community based long day care and vacation care. DoCS also funds a wide range of child and family support and resource services, for example, toy libraries, sector development agencies and peak bodies.
The total funding for DoCS Children’s Services Program in 2008/09 is over $140 million. This includes funding of $21 million under the Preschool Investment and Reform Plan Growth Phase.
An Expression of Interest is currently underway for this funding.
As part of the Preschool Investment and Reform Plan a new funding model for DoCS funded preschools was introduced in 2008/09.
The basis of the new approach is to match funding levels to the actual characteristics of the children and community in which the preschool operates and the pattern of usage of services by the community.
